Fort Decker: A veteran of Company F of the 124th NYS Volunteers (the Orange Blossoms) shares his recollections of the Civil War.
Through a blend of firsthand accounts and creative storytelling, the audience is taken back to riveting battle scenes and to the ordinary camp life. Local author and historian Michael J. Worden debuts his new Civil War presentation at the Minisink Valley Historical Society's Fort Decker at 1pm on Saturday September, Sept. 27th. He will be speaking as if a veteran of the 124th, preparing to go to Gettysburg in 1884 to dedicate the monument to the regiment. Program was researched and written in conjunction with author and historian, Linda Zimmermann. Please bring your lawn chair to this event as offered on the lawn. Tours will be offered afterwards of the 1793 stone house - one of the most historic buildings in Port Jervis and the surrounding area. Presentation may be rescheduled if it rains & then tours would be offered 1-4pm.
Come see our new Gillinder Glass display. Regular tour schedule: Opens from 1 - 4PM on the last Sat. of each month through Oct. Any changes or updates will be posted to Facebook. On October 25th, we will again welcome the Navasing Long Rifles, a colonial reenacting group. Dressed in period attire, these historians portray and share their knowledge of our colonial times as "living history" - contemporary to the period that this historic stone building served as an 18th century fort.
