My gr grandfather McCann's beginning is a mystery. All records I have found show him being born in Pt. Jervis, 14 May 1878; three years before the county kept birth records. The family story is told when he was about 8 yrs old, he came home from school and both his parents had been killed or died, and he was raised by a woman named Edna Ball. His parents listed on his death cert, are Edward McCann and (no first name)- Bixby. The family story is sketchy and I cannot find them in 1880 census anywhere! I don't know of any siblings.... He eventually settled in Honesdale, PA and married Anna Fasshauer. He has a great genealogy trail after that!
Was just wondering if anyone has ever come across a story or records that might be published in Pt. Jervis like this one.....I am not sure where to find him and he is a broken branch in my family tree! If anyone comes across it, I would appreciate a nudge. Wish I was closer to be able to plan a trip to Pt. Jervis!

Has anyone discovered a tie to the Bixby woman married to Edward McCann in Port Jervis? I have found only two references and not in Pt Jervis, but in New York. A Phoebe Bixby and a Rachel Bixby who died of measles at age 39. I am still looking for a clue !
