I'm trying to find information about my ancestors Peter Ruffer and Mary Sharff (sp?), who lived at the corner of Jersey and Penn in Port Jervis from 1870 until at least 1879.  Peter worked for the railroad in PJ before moving to Jersey City sometime before 1891.  Their sons Charles, Frank, and Augustus were born in Port Jervis.

The information I'm most interested in locating includes when they leave Port Jervis (I can't find them in the 1880 census), when/where they were married, and any information I can find about their parents.  (Mary was born in New York to parents of Saxon/German extraction, while Peter immigrated from Germany.

I have family connections in Pike County, PA and can visit PJ easily enough to conduct research.  Does anyone have any ideas about where I could go for more information?  (The county vital records?  The catholic church for baptism or marriage records?)

Thanks for any leads you can provide.
