Mr. John Eager, a former well-known resident of this village, died at his residence in Matamoras at 4:30 o'clock Monday (06-27-1887) afternoon of chronic disease of the bladder and kidneys, of which he has been a sufferer for many years. Deceased was compelled to take to his bed about a week ago and declined rapidly until his death Monday. He is survived by his wife and two children, Charles Eager and Mrs. George Staton, both of Matamoras, and by one brother and four sisters, Jacob, of Matamoras, Mrs. Mary Dorcas, of Craigville, Mrs. Phoebe Murphy, of Elmira, Mrs. Ellen Lewis, of Troy, Pa., and Mrs. John Van Tuyl, of this village.
I am looking for information on any of these familymembers.
Mr. Eager was at one time the Chief-of-Police of the Port Jervis department, and was also for many years a constable. He was aged 63 years. His many friends and acquaintances in this village will be pained to learn of his death. The funeral will take place from the house Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, interment in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
